It's Not Okay | Book Review

So as of lately I have tried to get more into reading. Seeing other bloggers suggesting books and reviewing them has made finding great reads fairly easy. I figured if I can select one book a month (for now) to focus on and take my time reading, I can set a realistic expectation for myself to keep reading.

It's Not Okay: Turning Heartbreak into Happily Never After by Andi Dorfman
4/5

I read Andi Dorfman's book It's Not Okay: Turning Heartbreak into Happily Never After especially after hearing all the buzz around it from Bachelor in Paradise. I enjoyed Andi's season and loved her and Josh together because you could sense the instant connection the two had. When news of their breakup broke out, both A and I were shocked!! Even he really like Josh & Andi, having gotten into the season after convincing him he has to watch (lol).

After reading the book, a lot of stuff now makes sense. Andi didn't hold back when it came to anything and I appreciated that sort of vulnerability from her. She knows she made mistakes in regards to finding love and she was almost blind in doing so.

I also got a completely different perception of Josh from her book. Of course it's only one side of the story and of course much of it can be made up, but after seeing how he was behaving on BIP, some of what she said actually made sense and I could see how it made sense.

If you are a fan of The Bachelor/Bachelorette/Bachelor in Paradise franchise, then I highly suggest you read this book. This book made me want to read more and the way she told the stories was captivating. At times she felt a little bitchy to me, but I get that she was frustrated with things that had transpired.

The only downfall I had was that it was an e-book and didn't have the same feel as a real book that has pictures and such. Although having an e-book totally made it easy with all the traveling I did over the last month to carry my iPad with me and read whenever I had a chance.

Have you read this book? What are your thoughts if you have?

Friday Faves | First of Fall

Happy Friday loves! As most all of you know, yesterday was the first day of Fall!! Bring on all the pumpkin, leaves and all that comes with it. However Houston hasn't gotten the cooler weather memo yet...any day now H-town! I did enjoy an (iced) PSL, the first of the season and it was just as good as I remember...of course I didn't take a picture of it, so did it even happen?!

This week was officially my last one where I can do nothing all day long, work starts Monday and it's sad to say, but I'm actually really looking forward to it!!

1.

It's official, I'm a Texan as of yesterday! I finally relinquished my IL driver's license and it was a sad moment. I don't have as good of a picture on my new TX license, but at least I'm official and won't get questions asked every time I pull out my license now (well when I get the actual one in the mail).

 2.

I was excited that Kate got the little goodies I got for her and baby girl Serena! So excited for her arrival :)!

3.

Yesterday I went to Sweet Paris with my cousin for lunch. It was such a cute little crepe place that looked like it was plucked from Paris and put in the middle of Rice Village. Their sweet and savory crepes were amazing, we got one of each and shared. I definitely will be heading back to try out more yummy crepes!

4.

Thank god for Snapchat filters that make you look glowy and put together after a grueling and sweaty work out! If only this filter was available in real life!

5.
(Not pictured)
I finally got to meet up with the lovely Myra this week and we had such a blast and completely forgot to take a picture...such bad bloggers! She was the sweetest and if you don't know her, go check out her blog asap!! I also got to meet her sweet babe Sofia who was hilarious and chatty!

So far this weekend is meant to be relaxing and just prepping for the work week ahead. What are you lovies up to this weekend?

Linking up with Amanda for Friday faves!

Checking Off My Summer Bucket List

This may be coming late, but after making my 2016 Summer Bucket List post it had me itching to get in as many things as I possibly could with it being my last summer in Chicago. With Fall right around the corner, it's fun to reflect on the summer and what I did!

I did extremely well at accomplishing more than 50% of my bucket list. The beauty of living in a warm weather state is that the other items that weren't checked off over the summer can easily be transitioned to Fall activites!

Let's recap with what I had on my summer bucket list shall we...

.: Go see a concert at Ravinia :.

.: Go paddle boating :.

.: Have a picnic :.

.: Eat snow cones :.

.: Watch fireworks :.

.: Explore the city :.

.: Go to the farmers market :.
.: Go to the zoo :.
.: Go to the drive-in movies :.
.: Go to the aquarium :.
.: Star gaze :.

***************************************

I had such a memorable summer even aside from all these fun things, but I'm glad I got to explore Chicago during the summer and experience it one last time as a resident. Even though I didn't get to do/see a few things, I'd say I accomplished more than I thought I would considering how jam packed my summer already was :)!

What fun things did you get to check off your summer bucket list?

Wedding Wednesday | Wedding Details

Happy Wedding Wednesday lovebugs!

Today I wanted to share with you guys the detail shots our photographer got of our decorations. I was obsessed with how everything turned out and couldn't believe my decorator (who had me all sorts of worried the week of the wedding) pulled off what he did! Without further adieu, I'll let the pictures do the talking now...

***************************************

I of course love all the pink and crystals all over. I knew we wanted to go with a more romantic theme without having flowers everywhere (not in our budget, plus peonies are not summer flowers). I love how the orchids added a pop of purple and looked elegant with the crystals. Overall, very happy with how it all came together the day of :)!

Now it’s your turn to link-up and share your wedding tales.

Apple Watch | Review

Back when I photo dumped on my life as of late, I mentioned that I got an Apple Watch from my lovely husband as a birthday gift. The awesome Rachael suggested I do a little review and thoughts on what I thought of the watch so far. I figured I'm always up for post ideas and decided to go ahead and let you know what my thoughts are.

I will disclose that I am not doing this review on behalf of anything, no compensation and I got the Apple Watch as a gift from my husband.

First off I have the Apple® Watch Sport 38mm Rose Gold Aluminum Case with Lavender Band if we're talking specifics. I absolutely love this type of watch for myself because the sport band allows for you to get a little sweaty (which in the Houston humidity is always happening) and it's uber comfortable too. It's hard to really explain the feel of the band, but it's soft and doesn't get caught on anything which is a huge plus. I also love the color because it's neutral enough to match with just about anything. I can wear it with my day to day uniform (t-shirt and leggings) or a nicer going out look.

Some of the features that I absolutely love in the Apple Watch is the text or call notifications. I'm usually a person who has my phone on me at all times, but short of gluing my phone on me, I can't always carry it. The fact that now I can have my phone in my purse and still make sure I get all my notifications to my watch is a blessing. I don't typically use the reply function when I get texts unless it's a basic emoji or a quick "ok", but quickly glancing at the notification and then responding later is great. Phone calls is another thing I enjoy getting on my watch. It's murphy's law when it comes to call for me, while I have my phone on me nobody calls, but the moment I walk away from it, everyone and their mom's (usually my own) will call me. Now I know I'm getting a call and can either answer right there on my wrist or grab my phone.

This is the display showing all the apps on the watch. I don't use 50% of some of these, but you can have others featured and the ones you don't use on the sides. This display isn't the main face, that's something you can customize with one of the faces Apple provides, or can customize it with a picture of yours.

I absolutely love this picture from our engagement shoot, I love how perfectly it suits the colors of my watch and it makes me smile everytime I look at it. I also love how easily and often I can change my picture or face if I want to.

The feature I realized I'm using more and more has got to be the health trackers. I do like that I can get my heartrate at any instance and the activity tracker is a great feature that keeps you moving and reminds you how you're doing throughout the day. I've noticed when it buzzes for me to stand up and walk around for a minute, I do it. I also get excited when I reach my goals and week by week it slightly increases. I'm hoping once I add exercising regularly into my routine, the progress will get higher.

Some of the cons of the Apple Watch would have to be it's battery life. I definitely find I have to charge it daily (usually done at night with my phone). I'm sure the newer models will have longer battery lives and I never have noticed it losing charge fully during the day so that's good.

Another con would have to be not being able to track my sleep. This may be a function that I haven't explored yet, but if so it's not as easy to find as it should be. I liked how my FitBit tracked my sleep because I was able to see when I woke up, how often, etc. If anyone knows this is a function on the watch, please do let me know :).

Honestly there aren't many cons considering all the pros of the watch. I honestly never thought I would be a person who wanted an Apple Watch, but now that I have it I am so glad I do. I know when I start working it'll be nice to not be checking my phone constantly when I get notifications because I can view them on my watch easily and more discreetly.

If you're considering getting a watch (or adding it to your gift wish list), I highly recommend doing so. Obviously this only applies if you have an Apple iPhone, but that's pretty self explanatory. If you're worried about not being able to master it, don't fret. Like all Apple products, it's very user friendly and I love all the little videos Apple has on their site to help you get to know your watch more. A lot of it is trial and error and just playing around with it though :)!

Again, I was not or am not compensated for this review, all opinions and photos are my very own :).

Weekending | Bittersweet Monday

Happy Monday loves! Today is a bittersweet Monday for me since it'll be my last one before starting my new job. This week there definitely is a lot to accomplish that I've been putting off since enjoying my time off...first on that list of to-do's is get my TX drivers license.

This weekend was pretty low key, but we managed to have some fun here and there.

I was excited to get this season's FabFitFun box, if you were thinking of signing up and getting this box (trust me you'll want to, it's my favorite box so far) go ahead and click that link for $10 off :). I'll do a post one of these days with all the goodies I got in my box and I'm obsessed with it all!!!

I had to snapchat filter this selfie because I was actually ready for date night before hubby and the bambi filter made me look fierce!

We ate at Lupe Tortilla and I swear this is my new favorite Mexican place in Houston. All the food was SO yummy that I was literally stuffed until way into the night. Give me all the guac, queso and enchiladas!!

The second part of date night included watching Bridget Jones's Baby, hubs was ok seeing this since it's British. He and I actually enjoyed it a lot and it totally lived up to the hype!!

Sunday marked both hubby and I's first time back at the gym in months! We were always on the go since getting married and moving, so finally now we decided to buckle down and work out again. It felt so good to work out, minus the dying in the heat when we walked outside...humidity go away, give me crisp Fall weather!!

Am I the only one who had no clue the Emmy's was on last night until they were actually on?! I missed a bit of the show (thank's Sunday Night Football), but of course checked out all the fashion. Let me tell you, the stars didn't disappoint in that department. I also love Jimmy Kimmel as the host, I think it was like watching a long version of Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Here are some of my favorite fashionistas from the awards last night!

-Clare Danes-     -Kristen Bell-      -Emmy Rossum-   -Sofia Vergara-    -Taraji P Henson-   -Tina Fey-

I hope you all had lovely weekends! Linking up with my girl Biana for weekending!

Friday Faves | 2 Months Married

Happy Friday loves! This week seriously it feels like it's flew by. I feel like I haven't really done a whole lot this week, but I do have some exciting stuff happening around these parts.

Sap moment: It's kind of crazy to know it's been 2 months since our wedding today....that's insane!!! I'm loving doing life with this guy by my side and have had so much fun so far...excited to see what's to come.

//New Job//

So a few weeks back I mentioned I got a job that I thought was my dream job. Turns out I dodged a bullet by passing on the job. I had a gut feeling that something wasn't right with the job and I declined the offer after thinking about it. The next day, hubs decided to look on Glassdoor and I knew that gut feeling was something. After reading how terrible the employees felt there and how over-worked and under-appreciated they felt, I breathed a sigh of relief.

I was kind of worried because now I had no job, but I was still on the hunt. Luckily it worked out and after a solid interview and excitement, I was offered a job that allows me to grow and learn each day. I'll be working in a Dermatology clinic for Baylor College of Medicine in the Medical Center and I cannot begin to say how excited I am to start. It's been a fun time just bumming around and doing whatever, whenever I wanted, but I'll finally have a routine again!!

//Best Drink//

I've been hooked on this drink ever since having it at a restaurant. I went to Kroger on a search for it and was so excited when I finally found it and grabbed 2 packs! I haven't had any other flavors, but I'm sure they are just as good. I thought the blood orange would be weird at first, but it's perfect!

//Monkeying Around//

Hubs is not a huge snapchat fan like I am, but whenever I'm doing the faces, he loves to join in. This one was especially funny because he got the makeup and bow ðŸ˜¹!!

//Nail polish Addicts Anonymous//

So remember how I moved to Houston with all my worldly possessions..well apparently that included an insane nail polish collection. These bad boys were so heavy in their (2) boxes and this is after I cut down on some that I just don't use anymore. Needless to say I won't be needing anymore...unless they're on sale or a really really pretty color!

//Date Nights//

I have to say, my favorite part of being married and living together has got to be date nights. Since we weren't able to do that regularly before, we've definitely been taking advantage of that lately. Either we have plans that fall on Friday's or we just decide to eat out then. I think we both look forward to it nowadays because it means the week has come to an end!

I'm also excited to begin Chinese Wednesdays next week. With Fall TV making it's appearance next week, we've gone through the schedule and decided that Wednesday nights we will order take out Chinese food and watch 2 hours of TV, starting with Law & Order: SVU & ending with the new Designated Survivor.

*************************************

For the first time in weeks, we have nothing planned for our weekend except going to the gym on Saturday (in what seems like forever). I'm excited to just stay home and fly by the seat of our pants...whatever that's supposed to mean. It'll probably involve a lot of binge watching shows on Netflix, let's be real :)! Happy Weekend loves!

New & Upcoming | Fall TV 2016

With the smell of pumpkin spice in the air and the air turning a (tiny) bit crisp around these parts I can't help but get excited for the upcoming TV season next week. I of course have my tried and true favorites to get me through the Fall/Winter seasons.

I wanted to showcase some exciting new shows that will be premiering this TV season.

Conviction [Mondays 9pm CST]
(ABC)

I love this actress (she's from Agent Carter if she looks familiar) and the concept of this show seems interesting. I also am a sucker for any legal type show. The cast seems to have a good repor together

American Housewife [Tuesdays 7:30pm CST]
(ABC)

I love a sassy and funny show and this seems to deliver just that. It's a show that can go either way once it airs, but I'm hoping it's great. The concept seems light hearted and loveable.

This is Us [Tuesdays 8pm CST]
(NBC)

This is such a highly anticipated show and I have to say I'm the most excited for this. It gives me Parenthood vibes and the cast seems incredible!

Designated Survivor [Wednesdays 9pm CST]
(ABC)

This is another highly anticipated show that I am very excited for. I had no clue about the designated survivor thing and I'm curious to learn more. Keifer Sutherland is also all sorts of awesome so I'm sure this will be a hit right off the bat.

The Good Place [Thursdays 7:30pm CST]
(NBC)

Kristen Bell is my spirit animal and I know this will be hilarious because of her. The concept behind the show is different and looks lighthearted.

Notorious [Thursdays 8pm CST]
(ABC)

I'm a huge fan of the casting on this show and it had me captivated from the trailer alone. The dynamic between the two main characters is electric and I hope this is a show that makes it the long haul.

********************************

These are just some of the shows that have me excited for the new TV season along with my regular season favorites like Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, etc. What are some shows that have you excited for TV this coming Fall season??

Wedding Wednesday | Henna & Music Night

Happy Wedding Wednesday my loves!

Real quick order of business, unfortunately Macy's time at Wedding Wednesday is coming to a close for her to focus more on her event planning business and as sad as I am to see her go, I've had a blast co-hosting with her. We wanted to put it out there in the blog world to search for a bride-to-be who wanted to jump on and take over for her. If you are interested please email either Macy or I :)!

Now onto today's post. I know I have been on a Wedding Wednesday hiatus, but I'm back this week to recap our Henna and Music night. This was held the night before our wedding and I have to say I was excited for this because it would be the first time all of our wedding guests would be in one room at the same time. Our photographer that evening was so awesome and I loved how she captured incredible candid shots along with posed shots of us and our family.

Now it's time for a serious photo dump...

I especially loved the backdrop decorations for this event because it was so fun and colorful, made for a great photo background too!

The hubs with his momma.

Unfortunately this was one of the only full family picture we got during the weekend. Luckily it turned out fantastic :)!

Friends checking out my bridal henna.

My favorite candid shot from the night!

Guests getting their henna done during the event.

My ride or die chick.

I love these people for all they helped with to make this wedding even remotely possible!! Love all my aunts and cousins!

My dad's side. The sad part is that this isn't even half of his family, but I'm glad that most of them could take the time out and come from all over to help us celebrate!

Sittin' on our thrones as the prince of Bel Air ;).

Got mad love for my momma!

I'd be nothing without the girls I surround myself with. These girls have been by my side through all the meltdowns, planning and excitement.

But first....let me take a selfie!

This has got to be one of my favorite pictures from this night because hubs and I snuck off to the lobby while our guests were enjoying and eating to sneak a few minutes in for pictures of us.

***************************************

I hope you made it to the bottom of this post and if you did, thanks! I hope you had fun getting a glimpse of the night before the wedding event.
