Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween friends!!

I'm working all day, but I am excited to get home and pass out candy to the kiddos. I hope we get more than we did last year, but it's supposed to be a cold and windy evening, unfortunately. Since I'm not going anywhere except work and don't feel like dressing up, here's what I'll be wearing to work today.

When I get home to pass out candy tonight, I'll likely get my cat costume on. Here's how I wore it last year, but I may skip out on the tutu, that glitter on there got e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.

What are your costume plans for today? Any fun plans or parties you have planned?

Whatever your plans, enjoy and stay safe out there!

Embarrassing Myself One Day at a Time

Sometimes I feel like I excel at embarrassing myself. I have flung food across the room cutting it in the lunch room at work, spilled on myself every chance I get (see: all the damn time), and if I had a $1 for every time I almost tripped over my feet, I'd be rich. I can probably recount numerous embarrassing stories from my childhood on, but I will tell you about a more recent time.

On just my second day at my new job (this week), I was sitting at my desk checking my emails and setting up passwords for software where all of a sudden, it hit me like a freight train. I felt extremely nauseous and just knew my body would turn on me and I was going to hurl reallll quick. Luckily I was super close to the bathroom, but apparently not close enough. My coworkers were in the room farther from the bathroom, but I ended up hurling all over the toilet instead of inside of it. Sorry for that visual. Let's just say I'll be laying off the salads for a while. When I felt like my stomach would finally calm down, I cleaned my mess so nobody would know what just happened.

Lucky for me I don't think my coworkers noticed anything wrong, but all I could smell the rest of my shift was vomit and I kept feeling like everyone could smell the vomit on me. Maybe they were just being nice and pretended.

From Google

Now that I have thoroughly embarrassed myself not only at work, but now on the internets, I'll leave it at that. What's your most embarrassing moment?

p.s. I don't have Ebola so don't worry.

Very Superstitious...

...writings on the wall

Sorry for getting the song stuck in your head, but in case you want to jam out to it, enjoy it below.

Now you're welcome.

Superstitions, we all got em. At least I think we do. Hmm if you don't email me, I'm curious to pick your brain.

Now I've never been the black cat or walking under a ladder kind of fan, I was a bit more on the weird side actually. I actually thought one thing I did was so unique to me that I just basically made it up, but alas I did not. That thing was trying not to walk on any of the lines in the sidewalks, so no matter if I looked like a baby giraffe walking for the first time trying to avoid those lines, I did it. I'm not sure why I did this, but I would totally make a game out of it on my walks back home from school. I still catch myself doing this now, probably out of habit.

I also strongly believe in superstitions when it comes to sports. If I wore a specific shirt for more than 2 wins, you bet your bottom dollar I'll be wearing that shirt for the rest of the season. I mean if I didn't the team would lose, I can't have that. Also, no I am not talking about the Bears because they are just pathetic and I can't even with them. Guess there is always next year...

Friday the 13th is also one of those days I just get eerie about. That paired with a full moon is just a hot mess waiting to happen especially working in healthcare, it's like the crazy people know. I try not to do anything major on any Friday the 13th, especially flying, hell to the N.O!

Although I may not believe in the whole black cat/ladder deal, I do strongly believe in the mirror thing. I truly think I will get 7 years of bad luck if I break a mirror and I've been extra careful around mirrors ever since I heard about this. Also, if I had a broken mirror, how would I take my mirror selfies? First world problems, folks, all day every day.

What are some superstitions that you believe in?

Younger Nikki

Look at that youngin, unaware of the world that would be. Life was so much simpler back then.

Dear younger Nikki,

Hey there you cute chubster (p.s. that baby chub doesn't ever really go away, deal with it). Look at you rocking that outfit, your fashion sense does tend to get better as you get older so that's a plus. Unfortunately, your hair is not as cute as it is in that picture, the curls are still there, but add in a fro and frizz, sorry. So I guess I'm supposed to give you some sort of advice on how to live life to the fullest or something like that, but to tell you the truth I have no clue what I'm doing. Sometimes life gets hard and you will have to deal with that as it comes, good thing is you adapt very well to change. Sure you deal with some bullies and haters in your life, but don't sweat it, you have a pretty amazing group of friends and family who love you unconditionally. Boys will definitely come and go, watch yourself in your early 20's you seem to have had a bit too much fun there, but you still seem to have a great head on your shoulders (minus the whole hair ordeal). Be patient when it comes to finding your Prince Charming, he will be found I can promise you that, he may have just gotten lost a bit and because he's a man, he didn't ask for directions. Take every opportunity you get in life, you will not only better yourself, but better your understanding of life.

Most of all, enjoy your time with your family, there really is nobody like them. Sure there are those people that you really don't care for (yes even as a child you knew who they were), but they are still family unfortunately. Create memories and build friendships with your cousins because those are your partners in crime no matter what (they still are too). Tell mom to quit cutting your hair, that's probably why I have the mop I have on my head now, but let your locks grow long and beautiful don't let her chop it. Also retire that B.U.M equipment hoodie you wore the crap out of, oversized and baggy won't do anything for you in the boy department. As long as you enjoy life and stay a strong willed girl, you will turn out to be a pretty awesome adult, even with your flaws, it's what makes you unique and special, at least that's what mom keeps telling me.

p.s. listen and love your mom unconditionally, she seriously is the best friend you could ever ask for. She gives some pretty great advice, but can be a pain sometimes too...double edge sword I guess.

Love,
Adult (kinda) Nikki

Bright Lights, Big City

Everyone at some point thinks, if my life were made into a movie [insert movie star name here] would definitely play me. I've thought about this a few times and my answer has changed a couple times. When I was younger, it was harder to find someone to play me in a movie based on looks because let's face it, there weren't and still aren't that many Indian actresses. One of the only Indian actresses in Hollywood at this time I could think of is Mindy Kaling and as much as I love her, I don't think I am a comedy genius like her.

When A and I have said in our conversations, man we need a tv show or movie based on us (trust me, we're not that interesting, but sometimes we get delusional) we've both come to a pretty easy conclusion as to who would play us. One of his favorite male actors is Bradley Cooper, so that's a given for his answer. For me, I believe Jennifer Lawrence and I are spirit animals. She is so down to earth and the type of girl I would see myself being friends with. Also, Bradley Coops & her just mesh so well together in movies, so the chemistry would most definitely be there.

and some lovely shots of the duo because they are just adorable...

I just love those two. Anywho...who would you choose to play you in a movie?

Favorite Book

I'm cutting it real close with today's prompt, but I was actually excited for this one because I just finished an awesome book just last week. If you're a fan of The Bachelor or Bachelorette, then you will most definitely appreciate this book even more. If you watched Ben's season, then you of course know who Courtney is. She was the villain that everyone despised and hated throughout the season (myself included). Spoiler alert, she ended up winning the heart of Ben, but that was short lived.

When I first heard that Courtney had a book out I was like oh this is gonna be good, she'll probably be all fake and tell us about how hard things were on the show and blah blah. To my utter surprise, I ended up really liking her at the end of the book. She talks a lot about the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in the show which was pretty awesome. I loved being able to understand what the girls are doing during their "down time" and just the day to day for them.

Sure Courtney was the most hated villain in The Bachelor history, but after reading this book you get an incredible insight into her life and how she is the way she is. I highly highly recommend grabbing this book from your Barnes & Noble or local library. Even if you aren't a huge fan of the show, it's still a great read. She is a hilarious writer and makes you feel like you are her friend, which I think takes some serious skill.

Although this may not be some sort of profound book, I think this is a great, easy read which any girl would love.

p.s. I totes read this book in a day!

Let me know if you read this and if you like it or not. Linking up with Helene & Taylor!

How Do You App?

Apps are the bread and butter of not only the blogging world, but our world as a whole nowadays. I have way too many apps on my phone according to my sister & A, but I feel like I utilized 85% of those apps. There are only a handful of apps that I love for social media editing and blog and they are:

Diptic
This app is great for collages and you can add cool borders and backgrounds as well. I believe this is an app I purchased, but I can't entirely remember. If it did cost something, it had to be $1.99 or less because I won't spend more on an app than that. I've noticed that this app is included in bundles in the app store, so it might be more cost effective to get a bundle if you're interested :).

VSCOcam
This app actually took me a few months before I actually used it, but when I did I fell in love. I love the many different filters that are available and it's different than Instagram because not everyone will be using the same filters. I feel on Instagram (as much as I love it) I typically only use 2-3 diff filters. This is also a free app, so if you don't have it, I suggest you download it asap.

Fotor
This is an app I love not only on my phone, but when I'm typing up blog posts. You can create collages so quickly (and with a ton of pictures) and edit pictures too, all for free!! I highly recommend getting this app!

Instagram
This is totally a given. I am obsessed with the way Instagram filters can make a dull picture jazzed up. This is probably the most used app on my phone. If you don't have an Instagram, I need to talk to you because I want to know why you're holding out. Get it, take pictures, filter that, post...so amazing.

I don't use a whole bunch of apps, but I love these 4 and use them constantly. What are some of your must have apps?

Pet Peeves

Pet peeves. We all got them, some irritate me more than normal, but you'd be kidding yourself if you said you didn't have at least a couple of pet peeves. I could probably nit pick and list a ton of things that tick me off, but I'll spare you all the novel-like list.

...drivers who don't use a turn signal

...couples who sit on the same side of the table when there's nobody on the other side

...people who blame anyone but themselves for THEIR failure

...students who prolong class by asking dumb questions

...going through the drive thru then having to return when/if they mess up your order

...using speaker phone in public areas

...people who cannot function at stop signs

...not washing your hands after using the bathroom

...people who ride their bikes on the road when there is a clear sidewalk & they act like they're a car

...people who don't send Thank You cards

...people who don't cover their mouth while sneezing or coughing (hello, Ebola)

...jerks who take up 2 parking spots...in the winter...during peak holiday shopping times

...people who don't know the difference between its/it's, they're/their/there, and you're/your

...people who go the wrong way in a parking lot

...when someone with a full cart of groceries gets in the 10 items or less line

...ignorant people

..telemarketers that don't understand people don't want to talk to them

...people who walk slow in front of you then stop out of nowhere

whoops I guess I lied about the whole long list thing, once I got started I just couldn't stop. Hopefully no one's pet peeve is long lists. What are some things that irk you or rub you the wrong way? Link up with Taylor & Helene.

Dream Vacation{s}

I have an insane sense of wanderlust 99.5% of the time. I'm constantly thinking and dreaming about warmer, more tropical paradises while I'm stuck in cold and snowy Chicago. These cold cold days have been horrible on my motivation to do anything besides work and watch netflix for countless hours (hello, Gilmore Girls). A and I were actually just talking about planning a tropical vacation yesterday, granted it probably won't be happening for a few years. There are far too many weddings happening in the next 2 years and in between A and I moving forward in our relationship (meeting the parents, family, friend, etc) along with me starting a brand new job just this week, extended vacations are totally out of the picture. Hell, I feel bad taking off a Friday & Monday to spend a weekend in Houston or vice versa when A comes here.

Although I'm not 100% for Barbados, I'll be ok with anything with a beach and fruity drink!

Some of my dream vacation spots (trust me I have tons) are:

Corfu Island, Greece

Puerto Rico
Aruba
Montego Bay, Jamaica
London
Paris

What are some places you are dying to travel to? I really hope I get a bunch of traveling done in the next 5-10 years!
